Definition
The decline of capital from its recent peak, usually expressed as a percentage or in R.
Why it matters
It measures the pain a system makes you endure. Recovery isn't symmetrical: after -50% you need +100%. That's why risk per trade must stay low.
Practical example
From 10,000 to 8,500: a 15% drawdown. To get back to 10,000 you need a 17.6% gain.
