FOMC decision

Updated 2026-09-20

Definition

The meeting of the Fed committee that sets US rates, with a statement and press conference, about eight times a year.

Why it matters

It's the most important monetary policy event for the dollar, gold and indices. What counts are the rate, the statement's tone, projections and the press conference.

Practical example

Rates unchanged but a statement softer than expected: the dollar may fall.
