Updated 2026-09-20
What EUR/GBP is, how the price forms (a cross), what moves it and its volatility characteristics.
What it is
EUR/GBP compares the euro with the pound without going through the dollar. It's a cross pair closely followed by those with trade links between the eurozone and the UK.
What moves it
- ECB and Bank of England decisions and the rate differential
- Inflation and growth data in the two economies
- Political and trade news between the UK and the European Union
Characteristics
It usually has lower volatility than the main dollar pairs and tends to make long ranges. The pip is worth about £10 per standard lot; with a euro or dollar account it must be converted.
When to trade it
The best moment is the London session, when both currencies move. At night it is little active.
