Quote currency

Updated 2026-09-20

Definition

The second currency in a pair, in which the price is expressed.

Why it matters

It determines the currency in which the pip value is expressed: for pairs with USD as the quote the pip is worth about $10 per standard lot.

Practical example

In GBP/USD the quote currency is the dollar: 1.2500 means 1.25 dollars per pound.
